Pednolva Hotel (St Ives) - hotel with a great restaurant and bar situated on the rocks of St Ives with views across the harbour. From a coffee, lunch to a full meal, this place is a favourite of ours. Recently re-opened after a £4m re-fit, Pednolva is our first stop in St Ives. Booking recommended.

Talay Thai Kitchen (St Ives) - serves authentic Thai food right on the water front overlooking the beautiful harbour of St Ives. Walk-ins only, it can get busy, however they have a bar beneath the restaurant where they come and collect you when your table is ready.

Duke St Cafe (Newlyn) - offer hearty breakfasts, delicious lunches and freshly baked cakes and afternoon tea using local produce from right here in Newlyn. In fact almost the entire menu ingredients are sourced within 5 miles, and where possible from Cornwall, even the fantastic coffee is hand roasted in Cornwall. Great for a coffee through to a full meal.

The Host (St Ives) - restaurant and bar situated in the heart of St Ives in a converted Victorian building, which was previously a bank. A real favourite of ours, as they specialise in homemade Pizza and Cocktails, and the bar often has live music at weekends, not to mention the fire when it's a bit colder. Booking recommended.

Trevaskis Farm (Hayle) - as the name suggests this is a farm just outside Hayle, and along with the ability to see the animals and pick your own fruit, it has a farm shop that is recommended by all the locals, and a restaurant on site. The restaurant serves some great food, and is known for its absolutely huge deserts. If you enjoy good food, and especially if you have a sweet tooth, this is a must. Booking recommended.

Lewinnick Lodge (Fistral Newquay) - hotel and restaurant with views of the Atlantic. The restaurant is well worth a visit, the view is breathtaking and the food is excellent. Booking a must.

Ugly Butterfly (Carbis Bay) - the restaurant owner/chef is Adam Handling who believes in sustainability and zero food waste, and his fine dining dishes do not disappoint. This is a real treat and with the stunning views over Carbis Bay, you cannot fail to enjoy. The Godolphin Arms (Marazion) – family owned beachside inn perched on the edge of the bay overlooking the island fortress of St Michael’s Mount. Serving delicious meals in the light filled, mellow living space, as well as a great choice of local beers, and wine and cocktails served on the beach terrace or snug by the fire in the winter thegodolphin.com

The Makers Cake Shop (St Ives) - no visit to St Ives is complete without visiting the Makers. It’s a shop that sells the most amazing giant cakes, which require several sittings to eat ! You just have to try one, but which ?

…. don’t forget the Cornish Pasty or Ice Cream ….. with many varieties to choose from they are a must try, just beware of the seagulls !

St Michael’s Mount - Looming in the middle of Mount's Bay and connected to the mainland via a cobbled causeway, this Abbey-crowned island is an unforgettable sight – and one of Cornwall's most iconic images. Initially a Benedictine monastery, and later the Seat of the St Aubyn family, it's a must visit. You can catch the ferry from nearby Marazion at high tide, but it's worth arriving at low tide so you can walk across the causeway, as pilgrims did centuries ago. There's been a monastery here since at least the 5th century, the present abbey was mostly built by Benedictine monks during the 12th century. Highlights include the rococo drawing room, the armoury, the 14th-century church and the amazing cliff top gardens which have featured on numerous TV programmes. stmichaelsmount.co.uk

Marazion - With stunning views toward the Lizard Peninsula and Land's End and its location opposite the fairy-tale Abbey perched on St Michael’s Mount, Marazion is justifiably a popular destination. The town claims to be the oldest in Britain and was called Ictis by the Romans and with an abundance of restaurants and old Cornish pubs, is a great place to visit at any time of the year.

Minack Theatre - Cornwall’s Theatre under the stars is a unique place to visit all year round. The Minack is a theatre perched and cut into the cliffs high above the Atlantic ocean. There is a full programme of drama, musicals and opera every summer, together with music, comedy and story-telling. Mousehole - If you are going to spend any time in Penzance then a trip over to the picture postcard fishing village of Mousehole is a must. Once described as the loveliest village in England by poet Dylan Thomas, Mousehole is a jumble of granite cottages clinging to the hillside around a small harbour. The harbour entrance is where the village gets its name from and the harbour is also home to a small sandy beach.

Newlyn - anyone familiar with the BBC TV series ‘This Fishing Life’ will instantly recognise the Harbour, its fishing boats, and some of the local fishing characters that featured in this documentary series.

Land’s End - is mainland Britain’s most south-westerly point and one of the country’s most famous landmarks. From the 200 foot high granite cliffs that rise out of the Atlantic Ocean, If you’re lucky, you may catch sight of grey seals, basking sharks and even dolphins in the waters below. Gardens - There are over 40 gardens to visit and explore in Cornwall, probably the best known is the Eden Project, however there are many close by and the closest is the Tremenheere Sculpture Garden. This inventive garden opened just outside Penzance in 2012. The landscaped gardens sit in a sheltered valley awash with artworks and installations. There's also a super cafe, Tremenheere Kitchen located in Gulval village. greatgardensofcornwall.co.uk

There are 7 glorious beaches in St Ives, Porthmeor beach is perhaps the best known facing into the Atlantic and backing on to the Tate Gallery, with surfing school and hire. Harbor beach is right in the centre of the town (and is our favourite). The beach is sheltered and as a result is very warm if the sun is out. One of our other favourites near St Ives is Carbis Bay, one of Cornwall's award-winning Blue Flag beaches, owned by the Carbis Bay Hotel (host of the G7 summit, where Boris went for a swim !), with great bathing, facing northeast and just one mile east of St Ives, the beach rarely has any surf so makes it perfect for swimming.

Marazion (main car park is TR17 0EG) enables you to visit St Michael’s Mount, either by foot or by boat, depending on the tide ! The beach has over a mile of golden sand and stretches from St Michael’s Mount all the way into Penzance.
